Easy way to check starter switch is to use a jump wire from the solenoid small post to ground. WebApr 18, 2024 · Try hot wiring to the coil connection. if it starts then either the afore mentioned resistor is bad or the coil is weak. Other possibilities include a bent spring on the base of the coil that is shorting to the case instead of contacting the point circuit, or an insulation issue on that big flat spring on the points in the distributor.

I had just fixed this issue over summer and it started perfect every time. New battery/rusted ground and bad cable was the culprit. WebMay 10, 2016 · Check the coil input voltage while you are turning the start over to make sure you are getting the proper voltage there while cranking (the battery could be weak too, if the voltage drop is a big one). Any drop in voltage at the coil input will reduce the output voltage of the coil resulting in misfires.

Plenty of N’s start just fine on 6v in below 0* temps. Clean grounds & battery terminals are always important.
